M24 Burials

About

The idea for this site came about when researching World War 1 soldiers. Some of these are buried in the Middleton (M24) area but not all have CWGC headstones as they are buried in family plots.

Trying to find a particular grave proved difficult as different sets of records often gave conflicting information.

Most graveyards do not have information on section and plot numbers on display, and the numbering of graves does not always follow an identifiable pattern.

Other researchers have transcribed the Parish Records and some of the gravestones, but no-one has put the two sets of records together.

The data on this site has been compiled from a full transcription of the burial records (which often include occupation, relative names and addresses), transcription of gravestones, newspaper obituaries and family notices. Any information from these sources has been added to the database to give as wide a picture as possible.

Initially the project centred on Middleton Parish Church and the adjacent Middleton and Thornham Cemetery, but has been widened to include all burial grounds in the M24 postal district

The two areas above are at the most advanced stage, but work is continuing on mapping the other cemeteries and transcribing the stones.

The links above will take you to the page for each individual cemetery where further details can be found.

The search function will search for all cemeteries in the area and the individual cemetery can be identified by the 3 letter code in the reference column.

Where a grave has been identified, clicking on "Plot link" will open a page listing all those known to be buried in that particular plot.
